We have probably all heard, time and time again, that we are supposed to include journaling in our layouts. I know for me, it is tough. That is kind of funny since I am a writer by nature. But sometimes, I feel like I would rather create something artistic, and journaling doesn’t really fit. Sometimes, I’m not sure that I want to share a particular story if it is something I’m posting publicly. Sometimes, it just seems like it is the same old story on a different day with a different pose. And now, with all of the technology we have access to, we are potentially telling our stories through all sorts of different methods (Twitter, Facebook, blogs, forums, Instagram, etc.) and don’t want to retell it. So what do you do when you feel like you can’t find the words to add to a page?

Throw in a quote or word art and call it good. Seriously. It is that simple. You live your stories. You know where you are documenting/sharing them or whether they are share-worthy. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for not writing a novella on your page. As long as you are capturing your stories in some way.

In the OSD forum, there is a discussion about scrapping processes. Some people start with a kit, some with a photo, some with just a piece of paper. Heck, sometimes I think that a piece of wordart or a quote can totally be the starting point for a page. If you are stuck thinking about your next layout, give it a try. Here are a few that might give you a glimmer of an idea whether it is the wording, the font, or the style.

This would be great for a layout surrounding a child, a graduation, a new home, new job/career, etc. Or maybe you’d just use the colors… or the font style… or the idea of putting journaling inside of a pretty circle. The possibilities are endless.

This would be great for a layout about friendship or romance or even a newborn baby.

This is a great quote by Augusten Burroughs that someone turned into a fun picture. You could copy this style and/or font in a layout or use the quote.

This is just lovely and could be used in many ways…

This is one is great for inspiration. Use the color or fun tapes or the font. There are a lot of ways you could take this. And if you just used the words, it is pretty versatile as far as what type of layout it would work with. You could use it with a gorgeous vacation photo, a sunny morning, a little kid (or big kid) acting excited… or you could use it with a touch of irony on a photo when they are looking unexcited. You could use it with a pet, a self-portrait, wedding pictures, newborn pictures, etc.

This also has a lot of potential as far as photos. And the color scheme is fun. You could also take a literal interpretation and use a viewmaster reel (one of my favorite elements).

I love this one and you could also do a lot with it. A couple kissing, vacation photos, swimming, people talking, a friend page, or even just a picture of an uncleared family dinner table.

And then, for those times when you are feeling stuck in a rut, looking at everyone else’s layouts in the gallery and feeling like you can’t come up with something as wonderful as they’ve done, just read this and push through to create something anyway…
