As talked about in the previous thread about art journaling this month, the technique to focus on this month was the use of WORDS.
“You can sprinkle words across the page. Use words as a border to complete your page. Use a definition taken from a dictionary (or urban dictionary). Use a thesaurus to find different ways to use your words. Write your words by hand and use them in your journal. Doodle around the edges of words. Use lines of color around your words. Put tiny images inside of your words. Circle or underline certain words. Vary the text itself in font, size or color.”
This may be one of the most difficult techniques for scrapbookers who want to try their hands at art journaling. With scrapbooking, the focus is on a picture and generally a specific memory or event. With art journaling and a focus on words, it might be challenging to create a page without a large focus on images.
Many people may fall into the I-don’t-know-that-I-have-anything-important-to-say category. Never fear. You can always use a favorite quote, a definition, a spiritual passage, a song lyric, a poem, or any other collection of words you can find that express a feeling you have or a situation you may be dealing with at any given moment. And maybe you just have a favorite quote or saying and you want to get all artsy around it. That is perfect.
Here are some examples of pages with a focus on words. These examples are from Teesha Moore. She does use a little imagery, but the words are the main focus.
And here are just a few cool OSD products that can help you find a focus on words. Whether you use a little or a lot, these products can provide a unique look.
What stories do you want to tell? How do you focus on words??
