Everyday Inspiration v.2
In the last everyday inspiration post, I wrote about how magazines and catalogs were good for helping get out of a creative slump because you could use the page layouts as inspiration to create something of your own. Another amazing thing about magazines and catalogs are the ads. I know… most of us want to just ignore the ads and flip through to read an article or look for products we want because sometimes those ads just seem to take up precious space. But if you are looking for motivation for your creativity, you can run across an ad that really jumps out at you and screams, “Hey, here’s a healthy dose of INSPIRATION!”
I recently ran across this ad and just fell in love with it. I think, the creator of the ad, Jennifer Morla of Jennifer Morla Designs, is brilliant.
Can’t you just see a scrapbook layout inspired by this? I definitely can, and it makes me smile every time I see it. I keep it pinned on my inspiration board at Pinterest as a reminder that even when you least expect it, you can look at something and it just might spark a revelation.
You could create your own word art. You could create your own set of doodles. If you don’t want to make your own, find a designer who makes fun doodles or word art and use their elements to put together fun on the page. Write over a photo. Write around a photo. Ink up the arms in a photo. You could create a full-page layout with just this type of look, or you could shrink it down and use it as a smaller part of the page and add some fun around it. You could keep it playful or make it serious. Do it in black & white or reverse it and have a color photo with black/white writing. Create your own graffiti. Tattoo your page. There are so many different ways to go with your ideas. You just have to take the leap and make it happen.
Go. Play.

Wonderful post, Kimberlee! I don’t usually pay enough attention to ads, especially in magazines, to draw inspiration from them but now you’ve got me thinking! I happened to have my newest issue of Cosmo laying here on my desk and started flipping through it as I was reading your blog post. There are SO many different things right here in one magazine to draw inspiration from, I’m bursting with creative ideas now!! Thank you!!
Love this! It really makes me want to master COREL draw, which I bought recently. I need to learn more about using vectors.
But yeah, I totally want to do as series of these for all my kids!
Love this!
love the idea of doodling all over a photo for a layout!
This image is amazing!! Truly inspiring. I don’t buy many glossy mags anymore. Maybe I should just for the ads! I love finishing inspiration in the strangest places!! Thanks for sharing! Might just get my scrap on!!
Love, love, love!!!!
