Everyday Inspiration: Girl Power
Lately, it seems that women & women’s issues have been taking a beating in the media. I hate to even phrase it that way because I also just read a statistic that stated one in three (Americans) would be impacted by domestic violence. One in three.
At first I thought that seemed like a really high number. To have 33% of Americans impacted by domestic violence? But then I started to think about it. I thought about all of the people, over the course of a lifetime, who had been victims of domestic violence or been impacted because they lived in the same household or had a friend or relative who was a victim. Then I realized that I was part of that statistic and that I skewed the average because I had been personally impacted by domestic violence (even though I usually try to forget about it or pretend it didn’t happen years and years ago) AND I was witness to a really close neighbor being abused when I was growing up.
All that being said, I just thought that it was a good time to focus on the positive and really celebrate women & girl power. Can you imagine what our world would look like if everyone celebrated women?
Once, a guy I knew told me that when I was advocating for women’s rights, I was being divisive. At first I thought he was joking, but then realized that he felt that if I was trying to support and encourage women to reach their fullest potentials, that somehow I was trying to downgrade men. That couldn’t be farther from the truth (& also completely illogical). Having respect for women does not exclude men.
I just wish that women could be treated fairly/equally & feel like they had the same opportunities. I wish that there was less competition, less cattiness, less criticism, less jealousy & less fear about being women. I want us to celebrate girl power & womanhood & all of the good things that can be associated with it. Friendship… motherhood… sisterhood… being a daughter… being a role model… being a lover… being a caretaker… being a mentor… being inspired… being spiritual… being intelligent… having a career… raising a family… not raising a family… being creative… being feminine… being emotional… being vulnerable… being strong… being capable… being aware… being active… being supportive… being energized… being confident… being all that you can be. You get the idea.
So let’s use some of those things as everyday inspiration. Create a page about a girl or woman who has had meaning in your life. Celebrate them. Celebrate yourself. Celebrate someone you love. Let’s have a big ol’ girl power party!
The team has come up with some gorgeous pages to inspire you…

How do you want to triumph today?? How will you document those triumphs?

Hear hear! Fantastic post! I agree whole heartedly. Great topic for scrapping- and a challenging one at that. I think I’m up for the challenge.
Great post kimberlee, well written about a sensitive ‘skeletons in a lot of families closet’ type’ topic!
