Oh the places they’ll go!
Sunday is Mother’s day, right? I have four kids, so I could be spending Sunday sort of waiting around for the little ones to do what they do every Mother’s Day, which is basically make huge messes in the guise of saving me labor by “making breakfast” & attempting such urgent housekeeping tasks as dusting with improvised “feather dusters.” It’s all very sweet, but kind of an ordeal for me, actually. But don’t tell them I said that, I don’t want to hurt their feelings. They really do try, & it’s cute.
This Mother’s Day I will not be home. I am flying (with the baby who is still periodically attached to me) to Kansas to see my oldest son graduate from college. Yes, I said I am taking my youngest with me to see my oldest graduate from college. We have a big age spread in our family. Anyway, it’s going to be, as they say, cray-cray. Saturday, the baby & I are trudging through airports, trying to get to our destination without causing an incident & being thrown off the plane. Then Sunday is the commencement. Perhaps I’ll be so busy chasing the little one around that I won’t have time to think about the occasion, which would surely make me cry. My parents are going to be there, as is my ex’s dad, plus I’m meeting my son’s adorable girlfriend for the first time, and her parents too, probably. I’m almost overwhelmed enough with the whole thing to overlook why I’m going- to see my first baby- this boy who was my best buddy, my second in command, my partner in crime for so many years, to watch him sort of symbolically walk off into adulthood. Eeep. I’m getting verklempt! When I get home, I will want to scrap it, so I asked the team to share layouts they have made about graduations & commencements. As usual, their layouts are awesome. Take a gander:
A couple by Brynn
A two-pager by Audrey:
one Lilja made about her daughter’s Kindergarten graduation. CUTE!!
A high school one by Jan, and two of her son’s graduation from Basic Training:
OOF! So the bar is set pretty high. Let’s see what I come up with. Have an awesome Mother’s Day, or whatever you are doing on Sunday. And hey, guys, wish me luck getting through those airports!
