Art Journaling Workshop
Last Friday, we kicked off a new feature at One Story Down… a free Art Journaling Workshop. We covered some of the basics, shared some inspiration (examples and links), and started a thread with some prompts that can be used as suggestions to jumpstart a journal page:
- Element - Use circles on your page. They can be different color, size, etc. They can be used as a symbol or just graphic interest.
- Technique - Use paint on your page. Build it up in layers as a background. Cover text/images with it. Blend. Use it as a bold element on its own. Play with different brushes for a variety of textures.
- Quote - “If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try.” — Seth Godin You can use it on your page or just as a jumping off point. Think about a page where you regret not trying something because you were afraid. Or about a fear you conquered. Or something you might do in the future.
- Question - What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
- List - Favorite summer memories
- Color Swatch - Pick one or two, all or none. It is up to you.

And here are some of the amazing pages that have been created in just a few days. The best part about it is that some of these pages are the very first art journal pages that these ladies have created. Check them out.
An amazing array of pages, and I can’t wait to see the next. Don’t be shy… share what you’re working on.
Next week, we’ll be discussing some techniques for both paper (hybrid) and digital pages… starting with how to create page backgrounds.
Thanks to everyone who has braved this project and created something so far, and for those who may be inspired to jump in as we go along.
