Sometimes we are so busy worrying about what’s to come or dreading the days ahead that we forget to just be grateful for today. That’s where I was for the last week or so, thinking about today. It’s the end of summer vacation. I can hear some of the mom’s out there cheering and finding so much to be grateful for!! But for me, a teacher, it’s a little harder. Life this summer has thrown some real curve balls at me, and it hasn’t been all that I hoped it would be. But I don’t want to spend my last day in a funk, so I wrote down some of the things that I do have to be grateful for:

  • I have a summer vacation to spend with my children and recharge my batteries.
  • It’s a beautiful day and I am going to fill it to the brim.
  • I have 3 wonderful children who are each starting exciting new school years. My oldest is continuing his education in a Paramedic program, my daughter is starting her senior year of high school, and my baby is a second grader.
  • Adult interaction. Summers are fabulous, but one definite plus to going back to work is the intelligent adult interaction with some great people.
  • Some of my students will be glad to see me and ready to start a new journey.
  • It’s a new chance to do all I can to touch the lives of a new group of smiling faces.
  • School supplies!! I’m such a school supply geek! I get all giddy with new pens, paper, notebooks, etc.

That’s part of my list. Now it’s your turn. What are YOU grateful for today?
