We were recently discussing in the OSD forums, the neatness (or lack their of) of our desks.

This is my space:

Although it may look like a hot mess, I like to say it’s organized chaos. I can shuffle a few things about and find exactly what I’m looking for… most of the time that is!

And… so that I need not hang my head in shame…. guess who else lived his life in organized chaos?!

Yes, that’s right, Mr. Albert Einstein! Not back company, huh?

There’s a great article called Organize Life Like Albert Einstein that talks about his method of organization not appearing very organized at all.

“Only put in enough energy and effort so as to pull out of life what really matters, what you really want. Be organized enough that you can find everything you need or want, when you need or want it. But don’t fret over the small stuff. And have a way to be confident you can tell the small stuff from the big stuff.”

My tip to you is to put a system in place that will help you be organized enough to help keep away the stress of frantically trying to track things down, but not to get wrapped up in so many details, that the process itself, becomes stressful. Find simplicity.

    How organized am I? I’d say I’m about a 4 - since I had kids! I used to be about a 9!!

  2. anna says:

ohhhh on a scale of 1 to 10, i would say my desk is a 5. BUT my closet is a 10!

  3. Kimberlee says:

I live in the organized chaos as well. I think I’m probably at a 7 on the organization level, but if someone else looked at it, they’d think I was at a 2. LOL.

  4. Stacia says:

I’d say my digi supplies are organized to an 8 or so but my photos are more like a 6.

  5. Rachel R says:

My life is chaos (maybe not so organized at times ) - thanks for the chance!

  6. LeslieM says:

10 on time. 9 on digi supplies. 4 in real life stuff, but I can find everything amidst the chaos

I’m about a 6-7 on most things… not great but doing pretty good!
    Thank you for the chance!!

  8. Terra says:

I used to be so organized but now feel like there is never enough time in the day. Everything is too chaotic for my liking and I’d have to say I’m about a 5.

  9. Stephanne says:

I’d say that I’m a 7. I’m very organized when it comes to my design business. The house could use a little work though!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  10. Melinda says:

I’d say probably about a 7. I can usually find what I need exactly when I need it. DH would probably put me about a 4 though- he just doesn’t understand my filing system LOL

  11. Virginia Nehring says:

    9-all the way!

  12. Kristin S. says:

I would say that I am a 7. Getting organized was a goal of mine this year. If I was asked in years past I would have said a 3, so I think I have come a long way.

  13. Jenn L says:

Very cool! I can’t wait to see more! I’d have to say I’m a 5. I can certainly be messy but I pretty much know where everything is.

  14. Erika says:

    Hey Girl,

This is an awesome giveaway for sure! I would love to win. As for my organizashun skills….well, that would be like a 3 maybe a 4. Thanks for the chance to win!

  15. Andrea Luhman says:

I am told I am organized, but I don’t think my desk reflects that? I think I am about a 6 on my good days.

  16. Natascha says:

I am organized chaos!! Hehe…I think I would give my desk a….4, but I can always find everything I am looking for Thanks for a chance to win!!

  17. Denyse says:

    I hover right around a 7!

  18. Candice says:

10 about law school, 1 with everything else. I live in piles of clothes and detailed notes. I’m so sorry but I’m ridiculous.

  19. Dianne says:

Organized? Me? Hahaha that is like trying to fill up a tub with only your hands. I want to be organized. I can’t tell you how much time I spend trying to be organized. But on a scale of 1-10 I feel like I am actually maybe a 3. MAYBE.

  20. Kim K says:

In my mind… I think I am very organized. In reality…I would have to say around a 7. I can usually find what I want but it isn’t very pretty!

  21. carrie says:

After my husband had surgery last year, I was super organized… probably a 9. Life was not gonna function otherwise. I even made a family manual so basically any person could step into our home and take my place. It made my mother-in-law think I was the most organized person in the world.

Now I’m at 1!! I don’t know if I’m coming or going… problem is is that my whole house is a messy desk. I tried starting the New Year by organizing one small area of my house at a time, but then I started scrapping again. And now my husband’s family has passed me hundreds of photos and asked me to scrap a memory book for my in laws 50th wedding anniversary. Only having 3 weeks left, I live and breathe that book. My husband has picked up all the chores that get in the way… including organizing, so I can’t find a damn thing.

My computer is pretty organized… ha!

  22. Pam says:

I am probably an 8 for my desk organization, I aim for 10 just never quite seem to get there. Thanks for the chance

  23. Heather K says:

Ha ha - I range from a 3 to an 8 depending on the day!

  24. Charmaine says:

yeah, um, a solid 5. for my work organization. 0 for home organization. thanks for the chance!

  25. Kelly says:

I’m a 8 when it comes to organizing, however I spend WAY to much time organizing and don’t always get that much scrapping (or cooking, reading, etc.) done.

  26. CJb says:

Right now I’m rating myself at a 4. Piles of stuff have sprung up in the last couple of days. Ugh. Thanks for the chance to win!

  27. Susan says:

    Hmmmm…. maybe a 6. There’s definitely room for improvement!

  28. ann says:

I work in piles and visible.

  29. Amber says:

How organized am I? Well, I have four children, and I usually know where they all are. That’s all that matters, right? =)

  30. Brenda says:

I would say I am a 7. Pretty good, but still lots of room to improve.

  31. Organized? I have three scrap spaces at the moment. My scrap room is all my oldest supplies, my basement has all the scrap supplies from the last two years or so and my dining room table has my stuff that I am currently working on. I am thinking I should be on Hoarders LOL. I can’t seem to make myself part with a lot of the stuff and I still donate to our local Children’s Hospital Therapeutic Scrapbooking Program. Help. LOL. I would say that all my rooms are an organized mess so I would give myself a 3.

  32. Laurel says:

    Can I hope I’m even a 4?

  33. mamabeescrappin says:

I’m and organized wannabe… but on the scale how I am actually - probably a 3… I don’t have one neat, organized spot in my house! thanks for the chance to win!

  34. Cathy L. says:

Yikes! Personal question! I would say I’m a 3, trying hard to be an 8.

  35. Staci G.d says:

I am a 10 for sure. I love to be organized!

  36. Monica says:

Definite 8…others would not think so, but I can put my hands on it in 8!

  37. Lisa W says:

I am not a very organized person. Just yesterday I was looking for a recipe book to cook dinner. I looked high and low for it. My son found it with the DVD’s. I would have to say I am a 3..

  38. stacy says:

Well, left to my own design, I’d be an OCD 10. And computer-wise, I’d give myself a 10. But life-wise, I’ve become a bit less organized with a husband, daughter, big dog, and 3 cats in the house…they all leave things and move things around…so my organization gets a bit un-organized!

  39. Carrie H. says:

I think I am about a 6 on the organization schedule (although my husband would probably say I am a 4). The more kids you have, the harder it is to find the time and energy to stay organized, but I try…

  40. Natalie says:

I’m about a five. My supplies are organized, but my pictures aren’t.

  41. Ekaterina says:

Thanks a lot for a chance!

    7

  42. Elisa says:

Probably a 7 most times. My desk is normally put back together after use, but there are days when it just gets piled on & I can’t find anything. Normally once I set it to rights it’ll last for a bit.

  43. christine says:

    I am a 6, but desperately want to be a 8 !!

  44. Sarah M. says:

I’m not as organized as I aspire to be, but am more organized than I used to be. Right now I’m probably at about a 5 or 6.

  45. Keely says:

I think I mostly fluctuate between 7 and 8. There are areas where I’m uber-organized and a few areas where I struggle.

  46. Rebecca says:

Lol, I have big aspirations to be organized but that doesn’t seem to be happening. I would say I am a 5 or 6 maybe. Thank you for the opportunity, I am super excited for this book to come out.

  47. Kathleen says:

I would say I’m a 3-4 when it comes to my workspace, but when it comes to planning a vacation or something like that I’m more a 9.

  48. Stefanie says:

I’d say I am a ten, hubby and the children pull me down to a 9 though. I am too lazy to spend time hunting for things, I love knowing where things are and putting things back where they belong for the next time.

  49. Cherie says:

Sorry I took so long in answering, had to find my keyboard!

  50. Sara says:

I’m SUPER organized at work.. at home.. not so much. So.. a 10 at work.. at home.. a 4.

  51. Nicole L. says:

I would say I’m about an 8 or 9. Very organized! But that is mainly because I have a scraproom and I don’t have to move my stuff around anymore.

  52. Rosalie says:

    Unfortunately, I am more like a 2 or 3

  53. Roni says:

Sadly I’m a 5. I have things organized in folders but I never remember the name of anything so I simply can’t find things. Ugh!

  54. Teresa says:

With 6 people in the house, about a 5 right now.

  55. San says:

My husband has been told by my mother that his life is now organized in boxes, maps, albums and baskets. So is its…. a 10 i guess ) Thx for the chance

  56. Jude says:

    I’m about a 3 on a good day!

  57. Melissa Rhodes says:

I am a 4 but want to be an 8!

  58. Stephanie says:

How organized I am? What does “organized” mean?
My whole room is a big chaos and my desk is a even bigger chaos of things I collected to craft with, with stuff for university, books, papers, pens and so on. So I can say I’m not very organized. I often do things last minute as I don’t have the discipline of doing them earlier…but I’m working on that At the moment I would say I’m a 4 or something of that. Except of organizing my photos, there I’m a 10, I would say, as I have a real system and can find every photo immediatley
Oo I would love to win the book! It sounds so great and with all the fantastic scrappers who worked on it, it has to be stunning!
Thank you very much for the chance to win!!!

  59. lawyerlyn says:

    I say a 5

thanks for the chance to win

  60. Tammy says:

The hard part for me is that sometimes I enjoy organizing more that I enjoy creating (sick, I know!)… I feel like I can’t be creative unless everything is in it’s place… I think this mindset definitely hinders my creativity. Thanks for making me think about that…maybe I can get busy creating now!

  61. Miriam Prantner says:

hmmm, maybe a 7, although I am also very messy - but I know where stuff is….

  62. Deb M says:

I’m pretty organized in real life, but on my Mac with digital supplies, I’m still trying to get a handle on it. Thanks for the chance to win!

  63. Jennifer Fredericks says:

Well. I’d have to say I’m a 2 or 3. I make an attempt to stay organized but it’s a losing battle. My computer is probably a 8 but the house….well…..I can at least find stuff. Usually.

  64. Melanie c says:

    i definitely need to simplify!

  65. Jan says:

I’d say I am about a 4. Have a system, just can’t keep up with the downloads.

  66. Karyn A. says:

It depends on the day for me - but I hover right around a 6 or a 7 - but I’d rather be a 9 or a 10 Thanks for the opportunity.

  67. Mabel M says:

In the “messy moments” my desk is 3 but usually is a 8

  68. Bonnie says:

My digi scrap stuff is about an 8. My house is about a 4. I love organization. I just don’t have a talent for it.

  69. Carola says:

Hmm. . . on a scale of 1-10, I guess it would be 5. Looking at my scrapping space, I’d say 1, but my computer files are 10.

  70. Joy Anderson says:

Last week I was 3.5, but I had an idea, so this past weekend I worked on my idea which set me back to about a 2…lol. Now after a few more days I’d say I’m up to a 5. Definitely a work in progress, but progress is being made

Thanks for the chance to win. Can’t wait for the release

  71. Kristin says:

I’m very organized! But no one else could find my stuff, I’m sure. So in my little mind I’m a 10. But if people would come into my house and try to find something, to them it’d be more like a 5.

  72. Ouuuuuu I’d say I’m a 6. I guess it depends what’s its for. I do write stuff down but it’s all scattered everywhere…not much help I suppose. I dont have a computer/workroom per se so I guess it doesn’t help that my stuff is shuffled everywhere haha!

  73. Beth M. says:

I seem to have piles that ebb and flow; I’d rate organization level as a 5 right now.

  74. LeahS says:

I’m not organized but I wish I was!! I’m probably about a 5. Thanks for the chance to win this fab book!!

  75. Chere says:

I’m about a 5 I think, even though I live around people who think that 10 is the only way to be. I like my chaos though. It’s a delicate balance.

  76. Jadelyn says:

Hmm..I’d like to say 10 but I realistically am more like a 5-6…I TRY so hard to be organized but I get rushed and it all goes kapoot! thanks for the chance to win!

  77. Vivian says:

I used to be a 10, then I was organized chaos, now it is just plain ole chaotic. Sad but true.

I’m a 5 when it comes to organization.

  79. Alyna says:

I think I’m about a 5. I could stand some improvement. lol! Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this book that I know will be amazing!

  80. Jen says:

If you asked me year ago, I might have said a 7.5. Today, I’m maybe a 4. It’s sad. I wish it weren’t so.

  81. Elaine Bowman says:

Can you be a negative on this scale? LOL We are just redoing our office…more space for me so I can’t find a thing! Shortly though! Can’t wait

  82. Melanie says:

Probably about a 4… I look organized on the outside to other people, but organized chaos on the inside LOL. Thanks for the opportunity to win the book. Looks like it will be most inspiring and helpful with all the input from so many awesome designers/scrapbookers/storytellers.

  83. Keianna says:

I am great at organizing and putting systems in place, but not so good at maintaining long term

  84. Amy K says:

I am about an 8. I need organization in order to be productive. But, while everything has it’s place, putting things back after a scrapping session could improve. Thanks for a chance to win.

  85. Kim G says:

My desk is a hot mess however my digi files are an 8. Thanks for the chance.

  86. Kendra Fahselt says:

I am going to say I’m an 8, I’m pretty on top of things but there is always room for improvement especially in things like meal planning!

  87. LaraRead says:

Big fat zero. I’m in the process of moving from a SB closet to a mini SB room and things are all over the place. It will be nice once it is done.

  88. Danica says:

Not organized at all…well my photos on my computer are, but nothing else. So its a start.

  89. melanie says:

That is a tough one. Can you be organized and messy at the same time? I’ll give myself a 5 because I think I actually AM organized (score but my messiness cancels out the organization. Organized slob? That’s me.

  90. Donna U says:

    I would say 6

  91. kym says:

I am a 7. I would love to be a 10 but then again, I would love to be a 10 on most things.

I’m an 8-9 with organization, but I need it to be that way before I can be creative:)

  93. Deb says:

I can go from a 3 to an 8 but keep striving for 9 or 10.

  94. Chelsey B. says:

9.89 OCD and Type A personality. It might be nice, but then sometimes I don’t want to scrap because things look so beautiful in their place.

  95. Gina Lideros says:

I think I am about a 4, I try to clean up a bit after every project but still have trouble finding things when I need them sometimes.

  96. Yara says:

    I am organized between 6 to 7.

  97. Cheryl says:

I’m not as organized as I used to be (currently about an 8), but I do tend to spend all my time on planning etc and then don’t have time to actually do any of the creative things that are spinning in my head.

  98. Shelly says:

I’d say an 8 - I’ve still got some piles to sort through, but I know where it all goes.

  99. justasiam says:

I am actually quite organized, as I really enjoy the calming effect I feel when I know where everything is, so I am going to give myself an 8.5.

  100. Lydia says:

I’d say I’m at about a 7 on the organized scale. I do pretty well most of the time. I love when everything is completely organized. But, it’s sometimes hard to keep up with it when I have 5 other people following me around and messing up my system. LOL. Thanks for the chance to win!

  101. uhmmmm! I’d say a Zero! I need serious help! haha!

    Thanks so much!
    Candi

  102. michelle says:

oh LOL! I am pretty organized. Some things comes easier than others, but when it comes to scrapbooking and memory keeping, I’m about a 9.

  103. nancy79 says:

Organizing my scrap kits and photos, I would say an 9. The rest of my life is much less organized. Need to work on that

thanks for the chance to win!!!

    xoxo

  105. clara says:

Can I use a negative scale for organization? Actually, my computer is very organized…but the space around it is definitely chaos…sometimes organized, sometimes…not so much.

  106. Kim says:

Uhh—unfortunately I would have to rate myself about a 3, if I were to be honest!
