I have a brand new Designer Spotlight for you today! It’s none other than the super sweet Mirjam of Pink Reptile Designs!!!!! I hope you’ll enjoy learning a bit more about Mirjam & don’t forget to snag the sweet gift she’s left for our OSD readers!

Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from the Netherlands.

Q: Where do you sell your products?
A: I sell exclusively at Zig Zag Scrap.

Q: Describe your design style.
A: Well that’s a tough one! I think you can recognize me in all my designs although I try different things & techniques. So I must have a certain style huh? I can’t give you a name but what I can say is that I definitely like to put a little humor in everything I create & also like the realistic paper look. Someone also called it fancifully vintage.

Q: When did you start designing?
A: I have always been very creative, even as a child I would make crochet cup & saucers for my barbie dolls (something my grandmother taught me), I drew, painted, knitted, etcetera. I started paper scrapping in 2004 whilst trying to come to terms with the death of our first dog Kenzo & fell head over heels in love with this hobby because it gave me the opportunity to put all my creative quirks into it. I’ve put handmade knitted items on layouts, I machine stitched, hand stitched & painted on layouts, you name it & I probably did it.

In March 2009 I officially turned digital & I loved having this whole new field of techniques & styles to learn & experiment with! Then in October of that same year the Zig Zag Scrap team gave me the opportunity to even further broaden my creative horizon, this time as a designer. I was over the moon!!!

Although I still need to feel paper &/or fabric from time to time I have to say that I couldn’t be happier with this clutter free hobby! Besides a creative outlet it brought me a whole world of digital friendships too! Friends that I cherish just as much as the ones I have in real life!

Q: Do you scrapbook as well?
A: Definitely also a scrapper although it’s often a struggle to find some time to scrap a page besides my regular job, designing & running a household.

Q: Favorite thing to design?
A: I don’t actually have a favorite thing to design. I just love designing period. What I do like to do is try new things, styles & techniques to keep it interesting for myself & my customers. Plus I love to learn!

Q: All time favorite product you’ve made?
A: That is such a difficult question because I love them all & often for different reasons that make it really hard to compare.

I love:

I love this kit because it turned out exactly the way I had it in my head. I love the summery & romantic feel it has.

I had so many ideas for this kit that I almost couldn’t stop designing. The kit is stacked to the roof with goodies because of it & I love that people liked the non traditional travel kit colour scheme.

I love designing with my digi friend Val & this collaboration turned out just so incredibly beautiful!

And of course my latest kit is always one of my favs!

Q: What’s your latest product?
A: Rated T for teen

Q: What’s your FAVORITE thing about being a designer?
A: I just love to create & I can’t even begin to describe how cool it is to see other people create with something I made! It’s the awesomest of things!

To give you a little taste of Mirjam’s designs in action, our Creative Team whipped up some pretties & gave a review of what they thought!

“Pockets, pockets, pockets, are so HOT right now. I especially loved these Pretty Pockets to throw in a simple photo or to journal on. There were many different styles to choose from. I settled on this simple one to showcase my photos. I decided on the bundle pack as I loved the yellow striped alpha set & the cute tape as well! I really enjoyed working with this bundle as things were very clean & simple, just like me.”

“This kit is soo cute! I absolutely love the flowers, the papers are to die for & the choice of fabulous word arts made it so hard to choose just one! I went minimal on my layout this time because I can think of a ton of other photos & ways I want to use this kit in the future!”

“This kit screamed out to me because it is simply perfection - the color scheme, the sheer amount & diversity of elements as well as the versatility it offers are all amazing! I love the attention to detail that I see in each & every element in this kit. This kit is packed with elements which are useful, beautiful & well thought out! This was my first time using the designs of Pink Reptile Designs & I’m so excited about being introduced to a new & wonderful designer! I’ll definitely be spending some time in her store in the future!”

“I love being introduced to a new designer. It was hard to decide which of her yummy kits to choose. Right now, I am so into typography & numbers, so this kit edged out the others. I have never really used a photo mask before, so it was fun to try, & it was super easy to get a fun effect. The photo mask also has numbers in it, which I thought was really neat. And for more numbers, several of the papers have them in different styles, there is a border stamp, number charms, word art & more. Between the colors & the numbers, this kit is totally versatile & I can see myself using it in a lot of different ways.”

“I have to say Pink Reptile Designs picked a great name for these papers & elements because they did indeed make me happy! These sets have lots of my favorite things (buttons, cute little owl, sunflower) & colors (yellow, orange, purple). I was very tempted to use all of the pieces. & the butterfly paisley background is just gorgeous! But what I really love: I scrapped these summer photos with a fall kit. It was very easy to put a page together with these versatile elements & patterns!”

“Finding new designers is always a ton of fun for me, & I was so glad to be introduced Pink Reptile Designs. Papers are always my favorite part of kits since I tend to use few elements, & I have to say, these papers did not disappoint. I love the scale of the patterns & the texture is perfect. The elements & colors in the “numb3rs” kit were fun & playful. I look forward to getting to know this designer better!”

“I immediately saw the journal cards & loved the combination of kraft, graphic patterns, & ORANGE — seriously, three of my favorite things. I knew I had to use them, so I went in search of other products that would match, & that’s when I found the February basics & the Sew Square stitches. The journal cards were designed in a way that made it easy to clip bits & pieces of them & mask them with papers from the February basics kit; I love how they contain lots of little layered-type pieces that make it simple to build up a layered design behind my photos but still keep things graphic & fairly simple so that my pictures & journaling remain the focus on my page.”

“The versatility in Mirjam’s kit’s is wonderful. I think wide variety of scrapbooking styles would find her kits appealing. She has a nice mix of realistic & digital elements & clean papers with a variety of pattern sizes & styles. The colors in this particular kit were very eye pleasing & could easily work for a feminine, masculine or gender neutral page like mine. This is another new designer to me & one that I will definitely be purchasing from in the future.”

“I adore Pink Reptile Designs! Her products are always so clean, fresh & fun! Wanderlust was perfect to scrap my vacation photos as it was neutral enough to be used for any place in the world! Love the versatility!”
